Buying guide: chargers & wireless charging

How much power do you need?

20W is the sweet spot for iPhone fast charging. 25W suits most Samsung Galaxy phones. 35W–45W charges two phones at speed or handles a tablet, and 65W–100W GaN chargers are small enough for a bag yet strong enough for a MacBook Air or Windows laptop.

PD, QC and GaN explained

USB Power Delivery (PD) is the fast-charging standard used by iPhone, Pixel, Samsung and laptops over USB-C. Quick Charge (QC 3.0) is an older Android standard over USB-A. GaN (gallium nitride) chargers run cooler and are smaller than older designs at the same wattage.

Wireless charging

Qi pads work with any Qi phone, including iPhone 8 and later and most flagship Android phones. Magnetic chargers snap onto iPhone 12 and newer. Wireless is slower than a cable, so it suits bedside and desk charging rather than a quick top-up.

Chargers & Wireless Charging questions

Do these chargers have a UK plug?

Yes, unless the listing says travel or universal adapter. Wall chargers here use the standard UK 3-pin plug.

Can I use a 65W charger for my phone?

Yes. A higher-wattage USB-C PD charger negotiates with the phone and only delivers what the phone asks for.
